Composition Project: Good Photos

5 photos with good composition:

Photo 1:

This photo shows good composition by repeating a visual element in this case the sign. The use of repetition gives it a more harmonic feel.

Photo 2:

Here we have a symmetrical photo which creates an ideal balance making a good composition. Also, their are a variety of elements such as the bench, the bush, the sidewalk that make up the symmetry.

Photo 3:

This photo demonstrates a subject, the toy bunny, dominating the frame and ultimately taking charge of the photo. The subject is also placed directly on the rule of thirds making it integrate better with the background while also creating a pleasing asymmetrical balance.

Photo 4:

Good composition in this photo is created by placing the flower in the center of the frame making a nearly symmetrical design. Also, the flower in itself has a lot of texture which certainly makes for a good photo.

Photo 5:

Here a good composition is achieved by the use of repetition once again. The variation in size of each column also adds a degree of interest.

Composition Project: Bad Photos

5 photos with bad composition:

Photo 1:

Despite having a symmetrical balance I think it makes this photo look a bit too "in jail". Also not much is going on in the foreground and background making it a rather flat image.

Photo 2:

This photo has bad composition because it doesn't include any of the principles of organization. You can maybe argue that it has some sort of proportion to the two columns but to me it is very minimal and doesn't make for a good image.

Photo 3:

Here we have bad composition due to also lacking any of the principles of organization. Their is hardly one visual element in this photo.

Photo 4:

This photo has a poor composition because it has too much variety in the frame and doesn't have any focus on a specific element.  To me it looks a bit cluttered making it unappealing.

Photo 5:

Here we have bad composition due to the awkward center placement of the two subjects. Also it should be framed a bit higher to make more headroom for the statue on the left.
